Introducing Van Gogh Pool

Brixton swimming pool at Van Gogh Primary School infants

We run lessons at pools in South West London. We are lucky enough to have been working with them for years now so we are well acquainted with them.

Each has its own character. And these stretches of water have been the beginning of many swimming careers.

Van Gogh swimming pool is part of Van Gogh Primary School in Vassal just off the Brixton Road. We are grateful to have access to it as it’s super convenient for the surrounding area and transport links.

The pool is a decent length at 10m and nice depth for both learning to swim or improving your skills. This pool is perfect for both our children and adult swimming lessons. Compared to busy public pools, this really helps a pupil’s concentration and to build their confidence.

Meet the swimming teachers

At this Brixton Pool we have a rota of five dedicated swimming teachers who are all are either Swim England or Swimming Teachers Association Level 2 qualified or above (or hold equivalent certification).  They all hold relevant first aid certification and all have up to date DBS certificates – to ensure the safety of your children.

You can find out a little bit more about the Van Gogh Pool teachers on our our Coaches pages.

What to bring

Please note the kit you need to bring to your class depends on what pool you are swimming at and what class-level you are swimming at.

All pupils will need to bring:

Z

Swimming costumes and towel

It can be useful for changing if this is a poncho style towel although not necessary.

Z

Goggles

These can be purchased from us if you call the office in advance of your lesson so that we make sure we have the right size for you at the pool.

Z

Label everything

Just like going to school, you may want to label your pupil’s belongings so that you can easily identify them.

Z

Swim nappy and swim shorts

For the baby lessons, parents need to bring a swim nappy and tight fitting neoprene over shorts. We don’t sell these but please call us if you are unsure what to buy.

Be careful as there are two Van Gogh primary sites in Stockwell, which are close to each other but on different roads. The correct site for your swimming lesson is the address above accessible from Cowley Road, just off Brixton Road, do NOT go to the Hackford Road site which is about 15 mins walk away.

POST IT NOTE JUST KEEP SWIMMING

Arriving at the site

As prior lessons will be ongoing please aim to arrive at your lesson NO MORE THAN 15 minutes early, to be changed and ready to begin at your start time.

The school gate is on Cowley Road. If it is during school hours, buzz the gate and the reception will let you in.

If your lessons are after hours, you will need to have the code for the gate. This only works at specific times and is changed regularly. Cindy’s Swim School office will keep you in touch with the latest code on arranging your lessons. Alternatively, call the office on 0208 004 6545.

  • Once in the school gate walk forwards into the main school building entrance.
  • Walk to the reception desk and turn right.
  • Take the only door off this corridor to your left.
  • From here, follow the corridor staying inside the building. The corridor winds a bit and has a few doors off of it, choose to walk straight ahead when possible or bear right and you will walk into the pool.
  • Please remove your shoes when you get to the pool or put shoe covers on when you get there.

Buggies and push chairs can be parked inside the school building close to the pool. Please confirm with the teacher where when you go for your first lesson. They are left at your own risk. Please don’t block access with them.

Some suggestions for after your lesson

We encourage our pupils and parents to spend time with each other outside of lessons. There are a number of cafes and parks in the vicinity of all of our pools. So why not suggest to anyone else at the lesson to grab a coffee or visit the local playground.

We are looking to build partnerships with local businesses to help benefit the school. Please do contact the office with any recommendations of places to go after class or services that might be useful to school members.
