We run swimming lessons at pools in South London. In Herne Hill we offer lessons at the Heron Academy Swimming Pool to nursery, pre-school and primary school aged children learning to swim.

We are lucky to have access to this pool, which is a perfect length and depth for kids, both those starting swimming lessons for the first time and those improving their skills.

Compared to busy public pools, a smaller school pool like this one really helps a child’s concentration. With fewer distractions and small groups of 4:1 child to teacher ratio, we find our pupils gain confidence, listen well, build trust with their teacher and make new friends more quickly.

What to bring

Please note the kit you need to bring to your class depends on what pool you are swimming  at and what class-level you are swimming at.  All pupils will need to bring:

Swimming costumes and towel

It can be useful for changing if this is a poncho style towel although not necessary.

Goggles

These can be purchased from us if you call the office in advance of your lesson so that we make sure we have the right size for you at the pool.

Pool noodle, kick board, dive sinkers

Label everything

Please label your pupil’s kits and belongings so that you can easily identify them.

As prior lessons are likely to be ongoing please aim to arrive at your lesson NO MORE THAN 15 minutes early, allowing you enough time to be changed and ready to begin at your start time.

The entrance is located at the main entrance of the school on Heron Road.

We’ve included some travel tips below. However, please refer to Transport for London for up to date travel information, as this can change.

Coming by tube / train

The nearest tube station is Brixton Tube Station.

Coming by bus

The following buses serve the area and stop as per the accompanying map. Here is a handy map of the bus stops nearby.

Coming by car

There is free on street parking on Heron road and on-site parking in the school parking lot

Some suggestions for after your lesson

We encourage our pupils and parents to spend time with each other outside of lessons. There are a number of cafes and parks in the vicinity of all of our pools. So why not suggest to anyone else at the lesson to grab a coffee or visit the local playground.
 
We are looking to build partnerships with local businesses to help benefit the school. Please do contact the office with any recommendations of places to go after class or services that might be useful to school members.
