Our Brixton pool is the ideal setting for your baby\u2019s first swimming lessons \u2013 and for every stage beyond. Measuring 10m by 6m, it’s perfectly sized for little ones. Conveniently located at Van Gogh School on Cowley Road, the pool is easily accessible from surrounding areas and well-connected by public transport.<\/p>\n

Each session includes a parent or guardian in the water, creating a wonderful opportunity for bonding while your baby learns to swim.<\/p>\n

Our baby swimming classes start from just 6 weeks old and progress naturally into toddler and preschool lessons. With small class sizes, you and your baby can build water confidence at your own pace \u2013 all while having plenty of fun along the way.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf0a Discover our Brixton Pool<\/h2>\n

Our Brixton pool is located at Van Gogh Primary School at their Mostyn site on Cowley Road.<\/p>\n

It’s an indoor heated pool which is 10m long and a nice depth. All the pools we use for our baby classes are heated to the recommended temperatures for little ones \u2014 at least 30\u00b0C for babies over six months, and 32\u00b0C for babies up to three months.<\/p>\n

Toilets, showers and changing facilities are available.<\/p>\n

We have a rota of dedicated swimming teachers at our Brixton swimming pool who are all are either Swim England or Swimming Teachers Association Level 2 qualified or above (or hold equivalent certification).<\/p>\n

What we teach<\/h2>\n

Our baby swimming lessons are structured to teach your baby in a fun and stimulating way to become used to the water and grow in confidence! We make sure that being in the water is a pleasant experience from their first dip!<\/p>\n

Our first priority is teaching water safety. To do that we work to build habitual movements, such as learning to grab the side of the pool, how to grab floats and learning how to float themselves.<\/p>\n

We cannot rush your baby\u2019s development though! So at each stage we help them at their level, to develop their gross and minor motor skills, and build strength in their muscles to aid with head position, sitting, crawling and much more!<\/p>\n

To keep the classes fun and moving we sing songs and rhymes, get babies used to splashing, bouncing and, later on, jumping in the water. Parents, grandparents or guardians will have a great time playing with their babies our lessons too!<\/p>\n

Babies grow quickly and our course content is designed to complement each stage in your child\u2019s development in the following groups:<\/p>\n

In our classes, babies can start swimming from 6 weeks old, as long as they\u2019re healthy and you feel ready. It\u2019s a lovely way to bond and build water confidence right from the start.<\/p>\n

If your little one was born prematurely, it\u2019s best to check in with your GP first, just to make sure they\u2019re ready for the pool.<\/p>\n

New mums are usually advised to wait until after their 6-week postnatal check before getting back in the water \u2014 but in the meantime, Dads, grandparents, or other family members are more than welcome to join your baby in class.[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Does My Baby Need to Be Vaccinated” open_toggle_text_color=”#2ea3f2″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” toggle_text_color=”#2ea3f2″ open=”off”]<\/p>\n

No need to wait \u2014 your baby can start swimming lessons even if they haven\u2019t had all their vaccinations yet.<\/p>\n

According to NHS guidance, it\u2019s completely safe for babies to go swimming from birth, as long as they\u2019re healthy. There\u2019s no medical reason to delay swimming until after vaccinations. So, if you and your little one are ready, we\u2019d love to welcome you to the pool.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re ever unsure or have specific health concerns, it\u2019s always a good idea to check in with your GP for peace of mind.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s okay \u2014 and totally normal. Some babies cry a little (or even a lot!) when they\u2019re experiencing something new, and that\u2019s perfectly natural. The pool can be full of unfamiliar sights, sounds, and sensations, so it might take a little time for them to feel completely at ease.<\/p>\n

We always take things gently and go at your baby\u2019s pace, with plenty of cuddles, songs, and encouragement along the way. With a bit of patience and consistency, most little ones settle in beautifully \u2014 and before you know it, they\u2019ll be splashing and smiling with confidence.<\/p>\n

Not at all. You don\u2019t need to be a strong swimmer to enjoy baby swimming lessons \u2014 just comfortable being in the water and holding your baby.<\/p>\n

Our classes are held in shallow, warm water, and you\u2019ll always be within standing depth. You won\u2019t be expected to swim or go underwater yourself. Our friendly instructors are there to guide and support you every step of the way, so you can focus on bonding with your baby and enjoying the experience together.<\/p>\n

Absolutley!<\/p>\n

Babies are more sensitive to the cold than we are, so it\u2019s really important that the water is warm.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why all the pools we use for our baby classes are heated to the recommended temperatures for little ones \u2014 at least 30\u00b0C for babies over six months, and 32\u00b0C for babies up to three months.<\/p>\n

[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Can my baby still come to class if they have a cold or feel unwell? ” open_toggle_text_color=”#2ea3f2″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” toggle_text_color=”#2ea3f2″ open=”off”]<\/p>\n

If your baby has a mild cold but is otherwise happy, eating well, and full of smiles, you\u2019re very welcome to come along to class. A splash in the warm water can even help lift their mood!<\/p>\n

However, if your little one has a fever or a more serious illness \u2014 like a chest infection, ear infection, conjunctivitis, sickness, or diarrhoea \u2014 it\u2019s best to let them rest and recover at home.<\/p>\n

Following NHS guidance, we kindly ask that babies and children wait at least two weeks after a tummy bug (diarrhoea and vomiting) has completely cleared before coming back to swim. This helps us keep the pool safe and clean for everyone.<\/p>\n

Yes, we do!<\/p>\n

We know that little ones can get poorly from time to time, so if your baby isn\u2019t feeling well and you can\u2019t make your usual class, you\u2019re welcome to request a catch-up session.<\/p>\n

All you need to do is email us at least an hour before your class starts \u2014 no need for a doctor\u2019s note or explanation. Each baby can have up to two catch-up sessions per term, subject to availability.<\/p>\n

While we can\u2019t carry missed classes over into future terms, we\u2019ll always do our best to help you stay on track and enjoy your time in the pool.<\/p>\n
