Southfields Parent and Baby Swimming classes<\/h2>\n

Greenmead Primary School pool, located off West Hill in Southfields, is a wonderful small pool, perfect for parent & baby lessons, toddler and nursery-aged lessons, and primary school aged kids.<\/p>\n

We are fortunate to have access to this facility as it is very convenient for the surrounding area in Wandsworth Borough. Compared to busy public pools, it is small and quiet, which really helps our pupils to listen, concentrate and follow instructions. This in turn helps them feel safe, builds more water confidence and skills and trust in their teacher.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf0a Discover our Greenmead Pool<\/h2>\n

It’s an indoor heated pool which measures 6m by 4m. All the pools we use for our baby classes are heated to the recommended temperatures for little ones \u2014 at least 30\u00b0C for babies over six months, and 32\u00b0C for babies up to three months.<\/p>\n

Toilets, showers and changing facilities are available.<\/p>\n

We have a rota of dedicated swimming teachers. At our Wandsworth swimming pool Evdoxia and Aaliyah are all are either Swim England or Swimming Teachers Association Level 2 qualified or above (or hold equivalent certification).<\/p>\n

They all hold relevant first aid certification and all have up to date DBS certificates \u2013 to ensure the safety of your children.<\/p>\n

What we teach<\/h2>\n

You may wonder what a baby actually learns in a parent and baby swimming lesson. Well, the first benefit of our classes is to help your baby grow used to and enjoy the water early on!<\/p>\n

But more than that! Baby swimming has been shown to help develop key water safety skills early, like grabbing the side, grabbing a float and learning to float themselves. Babies very much enjoy the time spent interacting with parents, grandparents or carers and having fun in the pool. We often sing songs and rhymes, and this all helps with their listening and speech development too!<\/p>\n

We work with your baby\u2019s development at each stage, helping them develop their gross and minor motor skills. This also build strength in their muscles to aid with head position, sitting, crawling and much, much more! Many a parent or carer has been rewarded with lovely long nap times after swimming too \ud83d\ude09 You’re welcome!<\/p>\n

Our course content has been developed to make sure it complements each stage in your baby\u2019s physical and cognitive development. This divides into the following stages:<\/p>\n

In our classes, babies can start swimming from 6 weeks old, as long as they\u2019re healthy and you feel ready. It\u2019s a lovely way to bond and build water confidence right from the start.<\/p>\n

If your little one was born prematurely, it\u2019s best to check in with your GP first, just to make sure they\u2019re ready for the pool.<\/p>\n

According to NHS guidance, it\u2019s completely safe for babies to go swimming from birth, as long as they\u2019re healthy. There\u2019s no medical reason to delay swimming until after vaccinations. So, if you and your little one are ready, we\u2019d love to welcome you to the pool.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re ever unsure or have specific health concerns, it\u2019s always a good idea to check in with your GP for peace of mind.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s okay \u2014 and totally normal. Some babies cry a little (or even a lot!) when they\u2019re experiencing something new, and that\u2019s perfectly natural. The pool can be full of unfamiliar sights, sounds, and sensations, so it might take a little time for them to feel completely at ease.<\/p>\n

We always take things gently and go at your baby\u2019s pace, with plenty of cuddles, songs, and encouragement along the way. With a bit of patience and consistency, most little ones settle in beautifully \u2014 and before you know it, they\u2019ll be splashing and smiling with confidence.<\/p>\n

Not at all. You don\u2019t need to be a strong swimmer to enjoy baby swimming lessons \u2014 just comfortable being in the water and holding your baby.<\/p>\n

Our classes are held in shallow, warm water, and you\u2019ll always be within standing depth. You won\u2019t be expected to swim or go underwater yourself. Our friendly instructors are there to guide and support you every step of the way, so you can focus on bonding with your baby and enjoying the experience together.<\/p>\n

Absolutley!<\/p>\n

Babies are more sensitive to the cold than we are, so it\u2019s really important that the water is warm.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why all the pools we use for our baby classes are heated to the recommended temperatures for little ones \u2014 at least 30\u00b0C for babies over six months, and 32\u00b0C for babies up to three months.<\/p>\n

If your baby has a mild cold but is otherwise happy, eating well, and full of smiles, you\u2019re very welcome to come along to class. A splash in the warm water can even help lift their mood!<\/p>\n

However, if your little one has a fever or a more serious illness \u2014 like a chest infection, ear infection, conjunctivitis, sickness, or diarrhoea \u2014 it\u2019s best to let them rest and recover at home.<\/p>\n

Following NHS guidance, we kindly ask that babies and children wait at least two weeks after a tummy bug (diarrhoea and vomiting) has completely cleared before coming back to swim. This helps us keep the pool safe and clean for everyone.<\/p>\n

Yes, we do!<\/p>\n

We know that little ones can get poorly from time to time, so if your baby isn\u2019t feeling well and you can\u2019t make your usual class, you\u2019re welcome to request a catch-up session.<\/p>\n

All you need to do is email us at least an hour before your class starts \u2014 no need for a doctor\u2019s note or explanation. Each baby can have up to two catch-up sessions per term, subject to availability.<\/p>\n

While we can\u2019t carry missed classes over into future terms, we\u2019ll always do our best to help you stay on track and enjoy your time in the pool.<\/p>\n
